Story|
Biarritz was one of Albert Fouquet’s must-visit destinations.
After his stay in Honfleur, at Christian’s residence, where the days passed between the beach of Les Planches and the Deauville-La Touques racetrack, both would embark on the journey to Biarritz. There, Simon, who had arrived from Burgundy, and Thomas, who had come from northern Spain, would join them. Both were men of the land, to whom Fouquet entrusted the management of the most coveted vineyards in Burgundy.
The purpose of the meeting was to receive Simon’s detailed report on the progress of the year at the estate and to coordinate preparations for the September harvest.
Once the professional matters were addressed in the afternoon in a meeting room at the Hôtel du Palais, where they stayed, the four would proceed to enjoy the deep friendship they had forged over the years.
The following morning, precisely at nine, they gathered at the Clubhouse of the Le Phare golf course, ready to show their most competitive side in the quest for the annual champion title: Christian and Thomas versus Simon and Albert. Around this competition, they had created a series of rituals known as “The 19th Hole.”
It all began with a dinner paid by the losing team, followed by the trophy presentation ceremony. According to tradition, the defeated ones had to jump into the sea with their clothes on, then, dripping wet, surprise the guests and staff at the Hôtel du Palais by requesting the keys to their rooms.
During one of the first editions of “The 19th Hole,” Thomas gifted Fouquet with a bouquet of geraniums, carefully cultivated in his country home. Knowing Albert’s mastery in creating exclusive perfumes, he suggested taking the precious bouquet to Paris to transform it into a unique, magical, and irreplaceable fragrance.
In the next edition, Albert surprised his three friends by presenting them with his masterpiece: LE TROU 19 DU PHARE.
